Text Notes

Introduction

  • The book of Exodus, and the events narrated in it, is probably the most significant part of the OT
  • Some parts of the story are well known but many Christians do not understand the significance of the events for themselves today

Moses Birth (v 1—10)

  • Remember the context of the continual and all encompassing oppression
  • Pharaoh's daughter directly undermined her father

Moses Birth (v 1—10)

  • Moses was brought up as a prince of Egypt, giving him vital skills for later leading the nation of Israel
  • But his sense of identity and values came from his mother’s teaching

Moses Leaves (v 11—22)

  • Killing one Egyptian did nothing to help free the Israelites from slavery

God Heard (v 23—25)

  • Another 40 years passed and the suffering of God’s people continued unabated
  • Meanwhile God heard the peoples’ cries

Application

  • What have we learnt this morning?
  • Trust God and do your part
  • God is often at work in ways that we cannot see
  • God works on His time scale
