Text Notes

Introduction

The book of Exodus, and the events narrated in it, is probably the most significant part of the OT

  • Some parts of the story are well known  but many Christians do not understand the significance of the events for themselves today

Obedience (6 v 28–7 v 7)

  • From this point in all his dealings with Pharaoh Moses said and did only what God told him to

Swallowed  (v 8–13)

  • The swallowing of the other staffs was a foretaste of what was to come

Why the Plagues?

  • They uncomfortably remind us of God’s wrath, that He judges and punishes sin
  • God gave the people of Egypt opportunity to repent at any point
  • These acts of judgment were also acts of salvation

Water into “Blood” (v 14–24)

  • The Nile was considered to be a god and was worshipped
  • This was a significant warning to Pharaoh that all of Egypt was in God’s hand

Application

  • What have we learnt this morning?
  • Total obedience is required
  • With God with us no one can stand against us
  • God judges and punishes sin …
  • … but wants to see salvation
