Text Notes

Introduction

  • The book of Exodus, and the events narrated in it, is probably the most significant part of the OT

  • Some parts of the story are well known but many Christians do not understand the significance of the events for themselves today

Frogs (7:25-8:15)

  • These events took place over a long time frame

  • The timing of the death of the frogs gave a clear demonstration that this was God's doing and not a coincidence

Gnats (16 to 19)

  • Even the court magicians recognized that this was the work of the God of Israel

  • Those who oppose God will be humiliated

Flies (20-32)

  • The flies were prevented from entering the land of Goshen ... a demonstration of divine power in the heart of Egypt

  • God used His power to protect His people even when they did not deserve it

Refection on Pharaoh's Heart

  • Motyer, "every choice for good or ill, goes to fashioning our characters and ... makes us answerable to the Judge of all the earth"

Application

  • What have we learnt this morning?

    • God's time is not the same as ours

    • God is all powerful

    • Every moral choice we make has an impact on us and others
