Introduction

The book of Exodus, and the events narrated in it, is probably the most significant part of the OT
-
Some parts of the story are well known but many Christians do not understand the significance of the events for themselves today
Mount Sinai (v 1-8)

On their way to a land flowing with milk and honey God took them to a mountain in the wilderness
-
Here God revealed His will to the people; here they entered into a covenant together
Preparation (v 9-15)

All the preparatory acts were external things to help people prepare themselves
Theophany (v 16-25)

Cloud, fire etc are all symbols of God’s presence
Application

What have we learnt this morning? God sometimes takes His people into a wilderness

We have replaced the people of Israel as the inheritors of their privileges
