Text Notes

Introduction

  • The book of Exodus, and the events narrated in it, is probably the most significant part of the OT

  • Some parts of the story are well known but many Christians do not understand the significance of the events for themselves today

Mount Sinai (v 1-8)

  • On their way to a land flowing with milk and honey God took them to a mountain in the wilderness

  • Here God revealed His will to the people; here they entered into a covenant together

Preparation (v 9-15)

  • All the preparatory acts were external things to help people prepare themselves

Theophany (v 16-25)

  • Cloud, fire etc are all symbols of God’s presence

Application

  • What have we learnt this morning? God sometimes takes His people into a wilderness

  • We have replaced the people of Israel as the inheritors of their privileges

  • We cannot approach God casually
