Introduction

  • The book of Exodus, and the events narrated in it, is probably the most significant part of the OT

  • Some parts of the story are well known but many Christians do not understand the significance of the events for themselves today

No Other Gods (v 1-3)

  • God wants His people to reflect His nature and values in the way that they live their lives

  • So they are to be total in their commitment to Him

No Idols (v 4-6)

  • No images or representations of God whatsoever; anything made would misrepresent Him

God's Name (v 7)

  • We should do nothing to bring God-s name into disrepute

Sabbath (v 8-11)

  • One day of rest in seven is part of how God has made us

Parents (v 12)

  • A key to social stability

Application

  • What have we learnt this morning?

  • We should have undivided commitment to God

  • The importance of a day of rest

  • Honour our parents
