The book of Exodus, and the events narrated in it, is probably the most significant part of the OT
Some parts of the story are well known but many Christians do not understand the significance of the events for themselves today
Introduction
- Today we begin a new section of Exodus, a record of various laws
- Although many of the laws are not in themselves relevant to our society the principles behind them are
- Vital to grasp that every aspect of our lives should be sacred
Servants (v 1–11)
- In today’s language this would be “indentured apprenticeship”
- These laws placed limits on what punishment was appropriate
Injuries (v 12–27)
- Jesus’ teaching transcends this
Animals (v 28–36)
Application
What have we learnt this morning?
- God is concerned with every area of our lives
- God cares about the weak
- God is passionate for justice
