Text Notes

The book of Exodus, and the events narrated in it, is probably the most significant part of the OT

Some parts of the story are well known but many Christians do not understand the significance of the events for themselves today

Introduction

  • Today we begin a new section of Exodus, a record of various laws
  • Although many of the laws are not in themselves relevant to our society the principles behind them are
  • Vital to grasp that every aspect of our lives should be sacred

Servants (v 1–11)

  • In today’s language this would be “indentured apprenticeship”
  • These laws placed limits on what punishment was appropriate

Injuries (v 12–27)

  • Jesus’ teaching transcends this

Animals (v 28–36)

Application

What have we learnt this morning?

  • God is concerned with every area of our lives
  • God cares about the weak
  • God is passionate for justice
