Introduction

  • The book of Exodus, and the events narrated in it is probably the most significant part of the Old Testament

Incense (v 1-10)

  • The image is of peoples’ prayers rising to God

Crossing Over (v 11-16)

  • Motyer; “each one must individually undertake the responsibility, make the decision and pay the price”

Staying Holy (v 17-21)

  • If they entered God’s presence in an unholy state they could die
  • We are cleansed by confessing our sin

Anointing (v 22-38)

  • A symbolic recognition of something being set aside exclusively for God’s use
  • Salt, perhaps for its symbolic value as a sign of a permanent covenant

Spirit Filled (31 v 1-11)

  • We see the Holy Spirit filling people to enable them to do practical work

Resting (v 12-18)

  • Just because we are doing God’s work does not mean that we can sit loose on God’s law

Application

What have we learnt this morning?

  • We need to “pay the price”
  • We need to stay holy
  • God’s Spirit enables us for every aspect of life
  • Rest is vital
