Introduction
- This morning we will explore a Bible passage that tells us about Jesus’ birth
No Room for Jesus (Luke 2:1-7)
- God was at work through Caesar even though he thought he was running things!
- The Message (Luke 2:8-14)
- Shepherds had a very low social standing, they were specifically excluded from acting as witnesses in court
- Jesus’ birth took place between April and November
The Message (Luke 2:8-14)
- Greek word “angel” means messenger
- In the New Testament angels were usually sent by God to bring His word
- The angels’ message was “do not be afraid”, God has sent the Christ who is “saviour”
The Responses (Luke 2:15-20)
- “All who heard it were amazed”
- Fascination but no real understanding or lasting change
- “Mary treasured … pondered”
- Looking for understanding
- Shepherds
- Obedient to God’s word
Application
What have we learnt this morning?
- God cares about those whom society does not value
- The Saviour has come bringing peace, Jesus is here
- Being amazed is not enough, people need to do God’s word
